Mt. Kilimanjaro

As the inaugural Leonidas event, Founders Jesse Acosta and Rob Jackson traveled to Tanzania, Africa, in an attempt to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro, the tallest free-standing mountain in the world.

On June 6, 2011 (D Day!), at 1:36pm Tanzanian time (6:36am EST), Jesse and Rob successfully summited Mt. Kilimanjaro.  In the process, Leonidas raised over $5,000 to directly support a nonprofit organization that has long established a track record of facilitating an effective transition for wounded veterans – Disabled Sports USA (DSUSA).  As a newly founded organization, Leonidas was proud to directly support DSUSA in their mission of rebuilding lives through sports by providing year-round sports rehabilitation programs in military hospitals and communities across the US to severely wounded warriors from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.  Over 4,100 wounded warriors, families and medical staff have participated in programs free of charge including individualized instruction, adaptive equipment, transportation, event fees and lodging in twenty winter and summer sports.

Our thanks to everyone for making this first event such a wonderful success!
